Nov. 13: Remembering Last Monday

Last Monday was the final day of our vacation on the Big Island.  Since we had to be out of the VRBO by 11:00 and didn't need to be at the airport until 6:00, we made the two hour drive over to Hilo to see the Hawaii Tropical Bioreserve and Garden.

Here's the description from its web site: We offer a mile of trails lined with thousands of rare and endangered flora from all parts of the globe.  It is a magical place where paths and bridges guide you over mountain-fed streams and waterfalls into awe-inspiring views of Onomea Bay along the beautiful Hamakua Coast.

There was no tour guide, so we were able to explore this large and beautiful place at our own pace, strolling through a rain forrest filled with waterfalls, flowers, and large rock formations. The path winds down to the ocean where there are very dramatic views of the rocky coastline.  It was a lovely experience and a great way to end our time on this diverse and interesting island.

We'll be back, Big Island!  We've already booked for next fall!
