December 23: A Good Time in Las Vegas

We're back from our trip to Las Vegas, and we had a fun few days. We stayed at the Bellagio which was resplendent with holiday decorations.  

We went to a jazz club and enjoyed the holiday songs belted out by the excellent and entertaining singer and her band. 

We ate several delicious meals at a variety of restaurants, all with a high "fun" component. 

We saw the Cirque du Soleil's  Love show, which features aerialists, acrobats, and dancers doing their thing on amazing sets and with special effects set to the music of the Beatles.

But we both felt that the best experience we had was renting a car to drive out to the Red Rock Canyon, a beautiful natural area only about thirty minutes from the Strip.  The hustle and bustle and noise and lights and sounds of the city seemed far away as we drove the 17-mile scenic loop through the park and hiked two of its many trails. 

I fell in love with the variety of rocks we saw as we hiked, especially the striped ones.... 

...and the polka dotted onees! 

This little vacation was the result of having airplane miles that needed to be used, and it turned out to be a lot of fun.

Now we're back home where a small storm moving in later today may leave us with a White Christmas,.  That would sure be a nice treat!
