The Weekend

On Friday morning I took my Mom to the emergency room. She had endured several days of intense lower back pain and had an appointment with the orthopedic specialist for later this week, but finally couldn't take the pain any longer. She was admitted right away and given a pain medicine through an IV to prep her for a CT scan and some x-rays. While it relived the back pain, it caused her to be quite naseous, a reaction which took several hours to overcome. It was after six before she felt better, the x-rays had been taken, and the doctor came around to say that she had two mildly compressed discs. He advised that she be admitted to a hosptial where pain management, an MRI, and prompt orthopedic attention would be available. Of course, Mom didn't want to go into a hospital, and I couldn't see that much would happen in the hospital over the weekend, so we decided to go home. We left with a prescription for pain pills, and they seem to be helping Mom make it through the weekend in the comfort of her home.

On Saturday I got my hair done and admired these neat nail polishes on display at the salon. Later Ben and I drove drove Paul to Annapolis for his overnight playdate at his friend's house. Here's Alejandro posing as a commando. I gather that Nerf fighting was the main event of the evening! Ben and Paul then went to Baltimore for a great dinner with friends and a night at the opera.

Today Paul and I saw my Mom and she was hanging in there. Here she is thanking Paul for the Valentine he had made her. Aren't they cute together?
