It's been very cold the past two days, with morning temperatures in the teens. This morning we came out to find that the pond was partly frozen with a thin layer of ice on the surface and thick chunks of ice on the waterfall.
Since this is our first winter with the pond, we're not sure quite what to expect, except that we're told that the constant movement of water through the pump and down the waterfall will keep enough air under any ice for the fish to survive the winter. Given all this, we've been relieved to spot several of the fish lately, poking their tails or heads out of the three fish caves.
