Yesterday I had the last meeting before the holiday break with the group of 5th graders that I advise. We had a little party while they signed "Santa's Nice List Certificates" for their teachers and school staff. Another advisor and I had designed the certificates but the kids wrote the actual citations, for which they came up with some interesting phrases, like "Thank you for not yelling at us" (for a teacher) and "Thank you for helping us with emergencies" (for the front office receptionist/secretary) She does, indeed, help out with a million emergencies all day long.
Today was "wrapping day" at school, so-called because the students wrap the presents they have bought as part of a school-wide service project to buy presents for kids who might otherwise have few presents to open on Christmas. It's a wild scene, with wrapping paper, scissors, and tape everywhere in the Sacred Studies classroom.
Some students came by the library today to offer me and my aide holiday cupcakes topped with cute rings. I especially liked this one.
These past few busy days have ended with glorious sunsets which almost force you to stop and admire them.
