Gmail Security and Other Weekend Thoughts

If you're using Gmail and you haven't already, please pop over to its two-step verification page and follow the steps outlined there to add an extra layer of protection against your email being hacked.

A while back a hacker got into my contact list and used it to send out emails under my name pointing to a  web site advertising a product.  Apparently hackers are paid for getting people to click onto these advertisements.  This was annoying and embarrassing to me.  I talked with Google they said that I may have forgotten to close my account and inadvertently left the door open for a hacker to get in.  They suggested using the two-step verification process, but I didn't.   A short time later a friend's Gmail account was hacked.  Later the same thing happened to my nephew. So when Ben wanted to show me how he had set up his account with the two-step process, I paid attention and then followed the steps for mine.

This morning when I opened my Gmail I saw that my brother had sent me two emails, both with odd subject headings.  When I opened them there was no message, just a link to a web site.  Another hacking!

The two-step verification process is a bit of a pain, but well worth it if you don't want hackers getting into your contact list and doing who knows what else.

Ben used his wonderful new camera and snazzy tripod to record the action at one of the bird feeders yesterday.  He was in the house, about ten feet away from the feeder, shooting through the glass window.   Aren't they great?

Ben's father is in town visiting Ben's brother, Jeff, who is recovering from surgery, so we are driving over to the Manassas area later today for a family gathering.  Paul's cousins turn nine on Monday, so the day may include an informal birthday celebration.

It sure was wonderful to sleep in a bit this morning!  Love those weekends....
