St. John: The Last Day

Look at this boy.  He is born for the water and has been so happy on this vacation.  Yesterday was like heaven to him since we snorkeled at not one but two great sites.  As he snorkeled, Paul hummed to himself; it was so cool to hear.

Check out this boy.  Yes, he enjoyed the snorkeling yesterday, too.  He also had not one but two fruit smoothies.  It's been fun watching him try all the different flavors the island offers.

Well, we all had a great day yesterday.  When we went over to the nearby resort's little convenience shop to get breakfast we asked about the snorkeling which is available right off their grounds and wrangled an invite to try it out. Usually it's open only to guests of that resort but I guess we had spent so much money in their shop and restaurant that we felt like guests by now.

It is a rocky beach and to enter you had to walk out on this long dock and then climb down the stairs.

Once in the water we were right in the middle of a beautiful little reef with plenty of colorful fish.  There was one particular school of dark purple fish that I especially enjoyed and I found this photo from the resort's web site to show you how pretty they were.

In the afternoon we went out with Captain Phil on his boat, the Wayward Sailor,  and he took us to a big reef where we saw all kinds of amazing reef fish and coral.  We were thrilled to spot a stingray and followed him around for a while as he looked for lunch down in the sand.  It was pretty neat.

Have I told you about the rooster that keeps crowing at dawn every morning?  Well, he woke me up ab out an hour ago and he's still crowing away!  I guess he's trying to tell me that we have to be out of our little Shangra-La in less than two hours and I'd better start showering and packing.  By tonight we'll be back home where it's 40 degrees and rainy right now.  I always love being home, but it is hard to leave this beautiful island.
