We took a taxi out to Trunk Bay today, often said to be one the world's top ten beaches. Well, I don't what else you could ask for in a beach. It's the perfect mix of civilized amenities (showers, beach shack food, and lifeguards), lovely private beach (white smooth sand, hardly any people by East coast standards, and soothing warmish water), and interesting snorkeling (trail made by the National Park Service and lots of reef fish made by God).
Here's the view from the taxi, coming down the mountain. [Correction: This is Caneel Bay; Trunk Bay doesn't have the red-roofed buildings seen here.]
This was the view looking left as we came out onto the beach.
And when we turned right, we could see the cay where the snorkel trail is.
Here are the boys getting ready to snorkel. I still can't get over how clear the water in the Virgin Islands is.
Being out in the sun and in the water seems to tire everyone out, so we've just been hanging out around our apartment for the past couple of hours, which is certainly relaxing.
It may look like Robbie's cheeks are sunburned, but they aren't. The backs of Paul's legs, on the other hand, are bright red and had to be cooled down with washcloths soaked in ice water for a while before the pain eased up.
