Last week was quite beautiful with nice warm temps and lots of sun, perfect for doing some gardening, taking some good hikes, and having fun with friends. We enjoyed having cocktails and dinner on our patio and even went downtown to eat, though still outside. It feels so good to be getting back to some of the old ways.
On Monday we had a few inches of snow which was very pretty and melted quickly.
It was a prelude to a cold and dark few days early this week, now followed by several snowy days, including a good size snowfall tonight predicted for three to six inches. The weather forecast shows a lot of snow symbols!
Today's snowfall started a few hours ago when this photo was taken and the snow is now sticking to the roads. Glad we don't have to be anywhere tomorrow morning!
I was at loose ends early this week as I was stumped on how to proceed with the two scrap quilts I'm making now. The tops are finished and I got them both basted properly into quilt sandwiches. But I ran into trouble as soon as I started the actual quilting. The nice long wavy lines I had planned to sew were coming out jagged instead of smooth and the three layers were shifting and moving, resulting in too many wrinkles. Grr...!!
After a day or so of doing nothing and being frustrated I bit the bullet and ripped out the bad stitching and started over again, this time with straight forward "stitch in the ditch" quilting. Back to basics and it worked like a charm. I happily spent several hours quilting today while watching for the snow to begin.
As I quilted I listened to an audiobook of The Alice Network, a story about a woman spy during WWI. It's been out for several years now, but I'm just finding out about it and am enjoying it a lot.
At one point I took a break and ironed some fabric I had ordered from Spoonflower, a company that will take your photos and print them onto fabric. It's quite a process to get your photos ready for digital printing and to size them to fit on a yard of fabric, but I had taken a Zoom class a few months ago to learn the steps and was thrilled when I received the prints. Once you get them you have to wash and iron them, so I did that and even cut the sunflower prints which had come on one yard into individual images. The big image of the cherries is a copyright free photo from Pixabay.com which I manipulated quite a bit in Photoshop Elements. I've now got them up on the design wall so I can think about what to do with them next.
So it's been a good day and tonight we're having a rib eye steak, which I'm looking forward to. You've got to eat well when it snows, you know!
I have a few photos of some fun things that happened the past couple of weeks. Paul's band had another gig here in town, which was lively and entertaining as always.
And Ben and I went up to the mountains for two nights last week. It sure was pretty up there.
We were celebrating being covered by our vaccines and we had a wonderful time.
