Kitchen renovation: Making room for the refrigerator
We needed to replace the old refrigerator, barely visible on the left, but could not find one that was the right depth for our space. We didn't want to change the location of the fridge. A counter depth fridge wouldn't work due to the wall on the left; it holds the pocket door we use when we want to keep our pets out of the kitchen. I really wanted a French door fridge, but finally realized one just would not fit into this space, and even the new side-by-side we bought is two inches too deep. Ben had the great idea of asking the contractor to box an opening into the wall, much like you would to frame a window, so we could push the new fridge right up against the back wall. The thin beadboard finishes off the wall without taking the space that drywall would.
