"Not a Day Fit for Man nor Beast"

It was a cold, dark, wet, dreary day. This was the view of Paul's swing at 7:30 this morning, and it looked even wetter and more forlorn when we got home after school.

Inside, things were a bit brighter as I spent a couple of hours preparing "book talks" for the three classes of 6th graders I'll be seeing in the library tomorrow. I love preparing and presenting book talks. I've found that the featured books are checked out as soon as I'm done talking about them, which is very gratifying. But that means that after the first class, the books are usually gone, and I have nothing to show the next classes. So now I usually scan the book and make a color printout which I then display to the class using the nifty combo of the LCD projector (mounted on the ceiling where it doesn't interfere with the arrangement of the library) and the fabulous document camera. I've tried PowerPoint slide shows, but I really like the flexibility that this system gives me since I can easily swap out titles or change the order of books, adapting my presentation on the fly in response to student reactions or interests.
