Why I Love My Job, #3

What do Oprah and Elvis have in common besides being great entertainers? They were born in Mississippi, along with writers Eudora Welty, William Faulkner, John Grisham, Ellen Gilchrist, and Shelby Foote; musicians B. B. King, Muddy Waters, Tammy Wynette, Leann Rimes, Faith Hill, Leontyne Price, and Conway Twitty ; Civil Rights activists Medgar Evers, James Meredith, and Fannie Lou Hammer; actors Morgan Freeman and James Earl Jones; and sports figures Walter Payton and Brett Favre. Not to mention astronaut Richard Truly. How do I know this? Because I spent most of the day helping 6th graders do research for their papers on famous Mississippians. When I started out, I had no idea that Mississippi had produced so many illustrious people. Now I know better!
