What I'm loving right now: The $100 trash can

When we designed the kitchen, we couldn't think of where to put the trash can. We like having our trash can out in the open where we can easily get to it, rather than in a drawer. We planned to decrease the wall the trash can had been on, and try as we would, we couldn't think of a new location for this necessary though unglamorous receptacle. We finally just plowed ahead, figuring a solution would come to us. And it did. A new space, right around the corner from the sink and convenient to the peninsula counter, has turned out to be just exactly where the trash can should go. But our old plastic white can clearly was out of place in this modern kitchen.

On an excursion to Bed, Bath & Beyond I saw a can designed by Simple Human that was both beautiful and clever in its' design. I knew it would fit wonderfully in our new space. But it was $100. Was I the type of person who could spend that much money on a trash can? After a lot of soul searching, I realized that the answer was "no." But I was the kind of person who could spend $80, and with the help of a 20% off coupon the store sent in the mail, I bought one of these gems home. It's just the ticket, with a removable interior can that's easy to clean, a clever slot to stuff the excess trash bag, a stylish stainless steel exterior, and a space saving semi-circular, wall-hugging footprint. I love it. (Am I the kind of person who can love a trash can; clearly I am!)
