Why I Love My Job, #4: Snow Days

We finally had a Big Snow, and one of the great things about being a school librarian is that when it snows you can usually stay home to enjoy it! Here in the Maryland suburbs near Washington, D.C., we don't get much snow, so a good snowfall is a treat to many of us. Having managed reference services in one of the reading rooms at the Library of Congress for several decades, I've had enough of struggling into work on snow days. It's a great benefit of my new job that I can just hang out at home and enjoy the quiet snowy view of our country lane and our very busy bird feeder. Those red dots are Cardinals; I counted five sets of them today, along with a Downy Woodpecker, a Red-Headed Woodpecker, many Morning Doves and scads of Wrens.
