Go fly a kite!

It was a beautiful blustery spring day today. My mission was to clean up the remaining vestiges of the kitchen rehab -- move all the extra wood trim, flooring, paint, grout, etc. down to the cellar and then do a good vacuuming of the now-cleared areas. I did pretty well, but when I took the two extra strips of siding out to the shed I found our kite and couldn't resist helping Paul and Evan fly it. They took turns trying to get in up in the air.

Evan got it to fly pretty high, but the string I had given him wasn't attached to the wooden stick it was wound on, and the kite and string flew up, up, up away from Evan until it all got caught in a tree. Oops. Paul burst into great wails of anguish. That was his first kite! His favorite kite! How could Evan let go of the string? How could Mom not have attached the string? He had the kite since he was four!

A couple hours later Paul and I found a new kite at Target and took it home to try out. Neither of us had much hope for it, since he was so different in design from the favored lost kite. But amazingly enough it flew great. Ben and Paul and I all took a try, but Paul was the master, making it do "stunts" and keeping it flying for long stretches.

Such joy after the morning's drama.

It was pretty neat to see the kite fly so close to the moon!

It was wonderful to be outside. The lawn is greening up, the mint is poking out, and the daffodils are putting on a great show.
