Springtime in Washington

Today is a typical Spring day in the Washington, D.C. area-- cold, raw and rainy, making me feel like huddling in a warm jacket like this sailor who stands patiently at the Navy Memorial. We saw him yesterday when we were downtown visiting the Newseum. It was cold yesterday as well, but it was also beautifully sunny.

It was a great day to see the view of the Capitol from the Newseum's 6th floor terrace.

Looking the other way, we could see the pretty flowering trees and inviting picnic tables around the Federal Trade Commission building. It reminded me of when I worked at the Library of Congress and would eat a picnic lunch outside to catch a few minutes of a spring day.

The Newseum itself was full of interesting information and fun things to do. The adults took turns looking at the interesting things while the kids enjoyed the fun things. Oddly enough, I was the only one who wanted to play weatherman in the "interactive broadcast studio."

We all thought the system for removing cafeteria trays was pretty cool and wished we had one at home.

As usual, Paul and his friends had the most fun just running around outside. I'm glad they had the chance, since today's weather is keeping us "all cooped up."
