Is the Pizza Man Smarter than a 5th Grader?

There was a pizza party at school today for most of the 5th graders, in recognition and celebration for voluntarily giving up several of their recess times to be "Book Buddies," reading to younger students. As the librarian, I organize the Book Buddy program, so organizing the party fell to me as well.

Yesterday I placed an order for eleven pizzas to be delivered from the local pizza place where the school has an account. I specified that they were "for a school lunch" and that they should be delivered "no later than 11:30." At 11:35 today there were no pizzas. When I called to see what was up, I was told that the order had been written up with a delivery time of 11:30 PM! Well! Seeing as how I had forty excited and hungry kids showing up in ten minutes for their pizza lunch, it took me a few minutes to calm down, to say the least. When I did, I was happy to hear the pizza man promise delivery in the next 25 minutes and at half the price, and I quickly rearranged the party schedule so the kids went out to recess first and then came in for their lunch and celebration.

Out at recess, many of the kids asked me what had happened. In reply, I asked them each: If you were told to make a lunch for 11:30, would that be a.m or p.m.? They all answered correctly, leading me to believe that these 5th graders, anyway, were indeed smarter than the pizza man!
