The electricians came this morning to do some work in preparation for the pond being installed in July. They have worked on our house for years, and when they heard that Paul was showing an aptitude for fixing things, they kindly told him all about their line of work and what it takes to be a good electrician.
Later, Paul wrote down three things he had learned:
1. For the electrician's job you need lots of tools. 2. If you do lots of hard work, you will make a lot of money. 3. You have to go to a special school.
What I learned was that being a "service" electrician in a small company was very satisfying because:
1. You have flexibility in your actual tasks and in your schedule.
2. You work with a lot of independence.
3. You always have work and make good money.
4. You're always learning something.
I was surprised at how closely this matched my own thoughts about what it takes to make a job satisfying.
Meanwhile, Fetcher, who has to climb up on every car and truck that parks in our driveway, had made himself at home on the top of the electrician's truck.
