They're Back
The day lilies are back, waving brightly around our mail box. The fireflies are back flitting about in the yard and trees as the night darkens. The blueberries and huckleberries are back on the big wild bushes the ring the pasture. It's summer, sure as sure.
What isn't quite back yet, but I hope will be soon, is that wonderful summer-time feeling of leisure, of long, slow, unplanned days that unfold as they will. I had just a taste today, as Paul and I let the morning evolve with no plans beyond watching another episode of Amazing Race, our latest mutual screen passion. Later I let myself wander about the computer with no real task in mind and ended up exploring instructions over on Clover Lane for scrap booking using Picasa. Very relaxing.
The big event of the weekend is the visit of my niece, Amy, and her family, from Idaho. They are on their way to a family reunion in Ohio and added an east coast jaunt to see all of us out here, including my mom. While Amy visited Grandma yesterday, I watched her kids. I took such cute photos of them playing with Paul, but they were all mysteriously lost when I downloaded them to iPhoto today.
Ah, well, we have a few more days of fun before they head out again. That's the essence of summer to me - - the wonderful sense of having time enough.
