Finally...Bearded Dragons, Snow, and Halloween

The early nor'easter that dumped an early but major snowfall from Pennsylvania northwards brought icy cold rain down this way. Paul really wanted snow and was disappointed when the light dusting we got quickly disappeared.

From the adult's view, the weather made being inside a special treat, especially when you could snuggle up in quilts with a laid-back cat purring away on your lap.

Sunday was sunny but still cold, just the perfect day for Paul to get his Bearded Dragon lizard. (If you were Paul and you were writing this, you would end that sentence with !!!!!!!!!!! But since it's Paul's Mom writing this, we'll just end with a regular period.)

Paul has wanted a Bearded Dragon ever since he saw one this summer at a camp program. He saved up his birthday money and allowance so he could pay for both the lizard and the habitat it would require, had taken care of his other pets without Mom and Dad having to remind him, and had done well in the first quarter of school, and now was the time to reap his reward. We drove around the Beltway to the home of a man who breeds reptiles of various sorts and looked over the Dragons he had for sale. Some were too big and some were too young, some were too frisky, and some were too red in color. But Spiky was just right; a nice, calm 2-month old lizard who immediately climbed on Paul's finger as if to say, "I'm ready; let's go!"

As if getting his lizard wasn't enough, Paul woke this morning to find a heavy frost on the yard and ice in the pond, both of which he scooped up to play with. It may not have been snow, but it was close enough.

Which leads us to today, finally the much-anticipated Halloween. Paul and his friend have planned their route carefully to make sure they get to the "house with the giant Hershey chocolate bars" early. Paul has his Halloween bag and pumpkin, both used for holding the candy he gets, ready. His costume is also ready. He is ready! But it's not even 4:00! How long can a boy wait?
