Storytime Monday

The Monday before Halloween is one of the most fun Storytime Mondays. This year the library aide brought in a colorful witch's head with flashing lights to sit on the checkout counter as well as a sound-activated witch's broom that moved around the floor as it made creepy witch's noises. There were candy corn treats and a clever story about monsters to read aloud.

In Even Monsters Need Haircuts by Matthew McElligott, monsters visit a barbershop during each full moon to get their hair cut. Even my youngest kids (three years old) loved looking at all the different monsters and picking out the ones they liked the best. The older students enjoyed the humor and the references to well-known monsters, such as Frankenstein. We all had a fun time.

The children each select a book to look at in the library and then take back to their classrooms or their homes (depending on their age). They love to sit and "read" through their book while they wait for everyone to finish checking out. I snapped this picture of one little cutie as he excitedly worked his way through one of Jon Scieszka's Trucktown series books, talking to himself as he pointed from one picture to the next.
