I admit it; I didn't like January. I was cranky and irritable all month as I watched the stupidity of our President and the politicians who refuse to stand up to him .... Grrr!
Okay, I promised this would be a happy blog and it will, it will!
So here are some things that have made me smile recently.
First up, politicians that did stand up to the bully holding the government hostage.
Second, the holiday decorations are all put away and it's the perfect time of year for jig saw puzzles. Do you remember this piece that I made a few months ago?
Well, sweet Ben got me the puzzle with the photo that started it all.
1,000 pieces; gulp! Luckily, Ben and Paul are up to the challenge.
Third, did you notice the quilt hanging over the fireplace? I made it way back in 2000 when we decided to adopt a little girl from Russia. It's called "Coming Home," and it came out of my thoughts about going to Russia to find her and bring her home. Of course in the end we found our baby right here in Colorado, but this is still one of my favorite quilts. I hung it up after Christmas and am enjoying seeing it out again.
Fourth, I've really been enjoying our new Instant Pot. Tonight I made pinto beans for the first time. They were ready in about an hour and were delicious.
Fifth, we finally made some decisions about our next big trip. Hiking near the Eiger is on Ben's bucket list to see and we're going to tick it off. We'll be off to Switzerland and France this summer! Whoohoo!
Sixth, the nurse at the allergy shot clinic put a big smile on my face when she told me I was done with two shots a week and am now tapering down to being on a maintenance schedule. Another whoohoo! It was surprising how having to take two hours out of my schedule each week to be at the shot clinic affected my schedule, and I'm glad to be tapering off.
And finally, yesterday I was all smiles as I spent the day with my SIL, Dawn, celebrating her birthday, which is today. One of the things we did was go see "On the Basis of Sex," which was fabulous. Go see it, if you haven't already.
Linking to my friend, Lee Anna's, "I Like Thursday" blog, celebrating the small but important joyful aspects of daily life as a counterpart to the constant drumroll of news and politics.
I agree on your first like! "Coming Home" is stunning. What a great destination for summer.
ReplyDeleteAwesome quilt. Sounds like an awesome trip this summer. Insta pots are awesome.
ReplyDeleteWe also really enjoyed that movie! Made me realize how little I actually know about Ruth Bader Ginsberg. We, also, are appreciating the politicians who are standing up to the ridiculous demands and behavior of the current administration. Let's hope they can continue! Your puzzle looks challenging!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilts! They're both beautiful. I may need to get myself an instapot. I've heard so many good things. Puzzles - it's been ages since I've done one - that one looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteyea Nancy, the brave! I didn't know that quilt represented a girl/baby! Loved Switzerland! So clean and safe! One can get lost in the Alps. I have a friend in France... wonder if you'll be near her house? I'd enjoy seeing a pic of the four of you... or the 6 if you consider her two weimeraners.
ReplyDeleteShe surprised me with her force. Good for Nancy! We'll get through this, yes we will. I recently saw the documentary RGB about the Judge. It would be interesting to watch a movie about her and see how it compares in the storytelling.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt, wowza!
Switzerland and France sounds fabulous. I love puzzles too- I haven't done one in a while but winter is the perfect time. I should get one out this weekend!
ReplyDeleteMary - I enjoyed your post very much. I love jigsaw puzzles and I agree that winter is the perfect time for them! It's always more fun to have a team effort, too. I did notice the quilt over the fireplace, and I am thankful you gave us some close-ups. It is gorgeous! I am jealous about your upcoming trip - Switzerland has the most wonderful mountain vistas!
