Five Years

The Iris are in full bloom around Boulder now, a sure sign that it is June.

Five years ago they were also in full bloom when we moved into our Boulder house, but we didn't have much time to enjoy their beauty as we were unpacking hundreds of moving boxes and getting ourselves organized. Moving is such a big job!  It took a lot of effort to get here.

Since then we've pretty much had a big house project going on all the time; putting in a new stairway, redesigning the laundry room, remodeling the three bathrooms, replacing the old kitchen, installing a new roof, replacing the siding, redoing the balconies and, finally, reworking the patio.

Thankfully, we didn't have to do all this work ourselves and we had our talented and conscientious interior designer friend Lotus as our guide and manager, but still, it's a lot of work to make all the decisions and do all the packing up and prep work so the projects can get underway.  All those changes have been exciting, but I'm glad we're entering a new phase of just enjoying our improved-for-us house.

Now there's more time to just have fun and do interesting things!

Last week, for example,  I walked down to Pearl Street Mall with my sister-in-law, Dawn, and my nephew, Michael, to attend the opening ceremony for Boulder's Pride month initiative, "Rainbows over Pearl."  Local businesses there are flying rainbow flags and the city has decorated the crosswalks with rainbows, all to convey to the LGTB community that they are welcome and accepted in our city.   It was fun to be able to walk to this downtown event, a pleasure to enjoy the people and sights, and I was proud of my town for showing commitment to something that I believe in.

I think we've landed in the right place!
