My mother has been in the hospital for more than three weeks. The first couple of weeks she was so sick and in such pain that not much else really registered with her. But the past week she has taken more of an interest in her surroundings as she has slowly gotten better. She has begun to really enjoy the cards and notes from children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren, the pretty get-well flowers and cute get-well bear that friends sent, and the many emails and e-photos that have come to her online.
Today when I was sitting next to her just chatting, I looked up and was struck by how much cheer and love she must receive as she lies in bed and looks at the bulletin board across the room.
With any luck, Mom will leaving the hospital soon and go to a rehab center for, as she says, "the next step." I'm sure she'll be taking all these messages of love and support with her.
Dear Mary, A big hug from Vienna for your mother as she takes her first steps toward rehab and recovery. All thosepositive thoughts must have helped. I watched that last full moon from here. The papers called it a "supermoon," and it was unusually big. Nights are often cloudy, so you're lucky to sight the moon at all. Much love, Jane
