When the phone rang at 6 AM this morning, I assumed it was going to be bad news. We've had an number of early morning and middle of the night calls this past year, and they usually mean trouble.
Instead, it was a recorded announcement from the school stating there there was a two-hour delayed opening due to ice. Soon thereafter the radio announced that the federal government wouldn't open until 11 AM due to the ice.
I swear I heard a collective sign rise up from families all over the area as hundreds of thousands of school kids and staff and federal workers relaxed in bed, thinking about the morning ahead, which had just become far less hurried.
As I lay in bed I thought of our wonderful weekend. The two main events were Operation "Dinner Out" with our friends Gina and Sandy (dinner at Black's Bar and Kitchen in Bethesda).....
...and Paul earning the final stripe on his yellow belt, which put him in the lineup for the Green belt exam next week.
The 500 live crickets we ordered online for Spikey arrived along with much excitement as we tried to get them out of the box and into their cages. No photos of that; you can't hold a camera and corral crickets at the same time!
I had spent a satisfying hour or so learning more about how to use my camera, including the self timer...
...and found the perfect turquoise paint color to use in repainting the sewing room ("Tantalizing Teal")....
...and these cute matching cubbies.
Thinking over all these pleasures wasn't a bad way to start a Monday!
