Bringing Home the Tree

We didn't know what to expect when we headed out to the Friendship Trees Christmas tree farm yesterday.  We hoped to find and cut the perfect Christmas tree, but we had never used this farm before.  We choose it because it was just thirty minutes from our house, saving us the half a day or so it usually took to drive to the farms in northern Maryland or in Pennsylvania.  We had a busy weekend planned, and while cutting a tree was high on the "to do" list, getting it done in an hour or two would be a real tick.

When we got to the farm and saw their fields of trees we knew we were in a good place. There were   several varieties of trees planted on about ten rolling acres, and it was peaceful and pleasantly calming to stroll around in the warm sunshine admiring the trees and imagining them in our living room.   Eventually we all admired the same one and agreed that it was the perfect choice, so the menfolk began the cutting.  Ben had brought along his super saw and Paul sawed halfway through the tree trunk before he turned the job over to Ben to finish.

After posing by their conquest, my two boyfriends hauled the tree up the barn where it was shaken, drilled, bailed, and tied to the car.

Once we got it in the house we realized that it was, indeed, the perfect tree.  Even with only half its lights and no ornaments yet, it is a thing of beauty.
