Roadwork kept the three-and-four-year-olds busy listening to the description of the steps involved in making a road, looking at the accompanying illustrations, and listening to the sounds of that the work, the trucks, and the workers make. After reading through the book, we looked closely at the fact page in the back which named each truck and gave a brief summation of its specific purpose. Armed with that information we went back into the book and found and named the different kinds of trucks.
It was a really interesting introduction to road building and road building vehicles and I now know the difference between an excavator and a front end loader!
The Kindergarten students enjoyed an entertaining book by Mo Willems. You'll know him as the author of the Elephant and Piggie series and the Don't let the Pigeon... series. Hooray for Amanda & Her Alligator is just as silly, but also contains some great messages about reading, books, and being friends. You can watch a cute book trailer here.
