Freaky!
7:20 AM. The last few minutes for the old kitchen. We think this cabinet was made in the 1940's by Mr. Dietz, a carpenter who lived in this house back then. We sacrificed part of it about fifteen years ago when we put a set of cabinets right next to one side of it, but we still loved it and weren't ready to give the whole thing up. Since then we've thought long and hard about removing it, but now we're done saying our "goodbyes" and are eager to move ahead. It is being taken out and the whole wall removed to allow the space to flow into the "old dining room" which is adjacent to the kitchen.
4:00 P.M. Making space.
The kitchen rehab got underway today at 7:30 AM when the crew arrived as promised. By late afternoon the appliances were moved out, the old cabinets were gone, and the old floor mostly ripped out. When Paul and I got home we looked around in wonder. Paul pronounced it "Freaky!" and had a ball dancing around the empty space.
While the crew was doing it's work, I had an exciting day buying a new sink, new faucet, new garbage disposal, the tile flooring, and also exploring options for the new picture window that will replace the one seen in the above photo. It was fun to spend money on such neat things, when we had saved up for so long for just this moment.
Here's a cute video of Paul having fun in the "freaky" space. Click on the left hand triangle to play it.
