Scientists Do That
When his after-school playdate ended today, Paul was a bit at odds, not knowing what to do with himself. Then he had an idea. "Let's do something, you and me, Mommy. Let's watch TV together." Weekend TV is a treat since Paul has little time during the week for it. I enjoy watching a movie with him, but I knew that what he meant was, "Let's watch Sponge Bob together" or, worse, "Let's watch the Suite Life of Zach and Cody together." I couldn't get very excited about that (a failing, I know!) , so I suggested that we play a board game or do some reading together instead. This led Paul to come up with his own idea. "Let's do a scientific experiment" he offered.
While I busily looked through our copy of 730 Easy Scientific Experiments by E. Richard Churchill and friends, he ran and got the crystals that he had been growing since Christmas. Just about the time I had decided that most of the easy experiments were a bit too much for a Mom on a Friday night in that witching hour between twilight and dinner, Paul got busy looking at his crystals. He was excited to find that they had grown quite a bit and he announced that he was going to make a drawing of them since "Scientists do that, Mommy!" He proceeded to do just that, and I was charmed.
