Storytime Monday
It was Storytime Monday today and I had a great time reading the newest "Dog and Bear" stories by Laura Vaccaro Seeger to the three and four year-olds. When I first read them silently to myself, the three sweet stories of friendship seemed almost too simple. But I've found that they come alive when they are read -- really, acted -- aloud and their message of kindness between friends have a rich depth that keep young children spellbound.
The Kindergarten classes enjoyed hearing the stories told in "Miss Flossie's Hats (and Crab Cakes Later)" by Elizabeth Fitzgerald Howard. These true tales from an African-American family in nearby Baltimore feature our area's much-loved crab cakes and are illustrated with wonderful paintings by James Ransome. A colleague lent me a great hat to wear, which was a fun "hook" for the book.
