It was Paul's last day of school today and I surprised him by picking him up in car line with an appropriately decorated car. We spent the afternoon with a couple of his friends at Dave & Buster's enjoying the Wednesday half-price games.
I have a bit more work to finish out the week, but basically am relaxing from the big push of the last quarter. My job is "back loaded," with a whole lot of work coming at the end of the year, especially in the "media" part of my position. In April and May I:
- reviewed, prepared, and sent out for scoring 240 Stanford-10 achievement tests (at the last minute, realized I still had to schedule one student for a make-up test!)
- created a "slide show" for the 8th Grade graduation (included scanning baby photos for each of the 60 graduates, taking & editing informal photos of each student, finding appropriate music, putting it all into a movie and burning the movie onto a dvd, the final step being by far the hardest)
- created a 35-page "Memory Book" for the 8th grade graduates (lots of problems with the school's color photocopier)
- got out the Summer Reading Lists for the 5th/6th grade and the 7th/8th grade (worked with four teachers to finalize selections, reformatted into a more appealing design, made color copies on the problematic color copier; book-talked to several classes)
- coped with an influx of photographs of end-of-the-year special events
- called in all circulating library books (print and distribute circulation notices, visit all classrooms, get a list of lost books and fines to the school office)
- tried to find room on the shelves for all the returned books (help!)
- wrapped up the budget year (made final purchases)
- did a so-called "technology inventory" ( meaning locate all non-computer equipment--such as tvs and document cameras-- used by teachers and see what they need for next year)
