Shoveling Out

The big blizzard, day two. We shoveled a path to the cars, which we parked down the drive...

but hired a gang of guys to shovel out the big paved parking area near the house...

..and cheered on the neighbor's brother who ran a snow blower down the driveway.

The Downy Woodpecker and other birds continued to feast at the feeders....

and Paul continued to romp in the snow.

Schools are, of course, closed tomorrow, but the amazing thing is that the federal government will also be closed. This rare occurrence means that Ben will be home, which is wonderful.

The pleasures of the snow are offset by the pains it brings. On a personal note, this means that today's family dinner at Grandma's -- to celebrate the visit of my brother and sister-in-law who had arrived from Utah right before the storm hit --was canceled since most of the family couldn't get out their driveways. Not as bad as being stranded at the airport or skidding on a snow-slicked road, but bad enough. Too bad we can't have the beauty of the snow without the inconvenience.
