Catching Up

I'm running a bit behind this week since every minute seems to be spent either working, keeping Paul on track with his schoolwork, or getting ready for Paul's annual Halloween party, which is on Saturday (and a big "Yeah" for the great weather we're scheduled to have!)

But before time got away I did want to mention the excellent book I read about Johnny Appleseed on Monday for Story Time. I've been wanting to read a biography, but wondered how that genre would go over with my little ones. This being apple season, I decided to try out Rosemary and Stephen Vincent Benet's biographical poem and was tickled that it held the kid's interest. I think the illustrations by S.D. Schindler were the key, as they showed Johnny as quite a character. I mean, how could a five-year-old not be fascinated, seeing Johnny wearing a tin hat and balancing an apple an apple on the handle!

My own ten-year-old was fascinated today when he spotted a Fedex truck "going backwards!" It sure did look like it was driving backwards, but it turned out that it was just being towed. Still, it was a sight you don't see every day, and Paul had fun taking these photos as we passed by.

And speaking of ten-year-olds having fun, should you care to experience a little bathroom humor that had my boy literally falling on the floor laughing this evening, check out this video. Somehow he found it on YouTube while he was looking for the Gummy Bear Song, and he almost got sick from laughing so hard.
