After School Tea
Yesterday was Eden's last day before she goes on maternity leave. The glow of happiness she's worn during her long-wanted pregnancy has made her work friends happy, too, but in the past couple of days we've had to come to terms with the idea that she'll be gone from school for a while and just may not come back. So to provide a bit of closure, we shared a cup of tea at my house (conveniently just down the street from school) before seeing her off with goodbye and good luck hugs.
As I watched her get ready to leave her work in the hands of a capable substitute teacher, I was reminded of my last week of work before Paul was born. What an effort it was to get everything in shape to leave work for an extended period, the whole time wondering about the impending birth and hoping all would turn out well. That was an emotional time and I remember so well the support from my family and friends and how much that meant.
I think Eden left feeling that same support from us. I know we felt better have a few quiet moments with her before saying what we hope was a temporary goodbye.
