The Flautist

The Cadet Band, made up of the entire 5th grade class at school, played quite nicely at last night's band concert. It was hard to remember that most of them hadn't played a band instrument until band camp last summer. Here they were, playing three Christmas songs in front of a big audience and looking pretty proud of themselves.

On the way to the concert, Paul told me that he was nervous. I remembered how last year, when I helped get the kids all lined up to go on stage, one of the girls told me nervously that "This is the first time I've played in front of people, Mrs. Ison!" It's a pretty exciting moment.

Here's Paul in his concert "attire" (one of his vocabulary words for this week) holding his flute which Mrs. D decorated with a red bow.

He'd like you to know that his fingers are in the position for playing an E flat. I'd like you to know that we fixed his collar and tie before he actually got on stage.
