One to three inches of snow fell this afternoon. Since it's been so cold here lately, every flake stuck to the ground. School closed up two hours early, much to the delight of Paul and his friends, Andrew and Evan. The traffic into school was backed up, so we walked home, enjoying the winter wonderland.
After a couple hours of sledding and playing the Wii, the boys decided to decorate the gingerbread house that Paul and I had put together a few days ago.
When I learned that Andrew is an admirer of this blog and that he really wanted his picture to be included, I was happy to oblige.
The weather inspired me to mix up a batch of butter cookies which I put into the fridge to chill. That wasn't enough baking to satisfy my nesting urge, so I made a several little loaves of pumpkin cranberry bread from a recipe I got here.
After Andrew left, I gave the chilled cookie dough to Paul and Evan and let them roll, cut, and smash it to their heart's content.
Oddly enough, despite all this attention, the finished cookies tasted really good, the testament of a good recipe.
To top the afternoon, Ben came home early. You've got to love a good little snow storm.
