Hard to Believe

It's hard to believe that the iPod touch was unveiled six years ago today.  Really?? We've only had these wonderful devices for six years?  What's even harder to believe is that the iPhone came out just four months earlier.

It's hard to believe that I choose Bogata Blackberry for a nail color when I had my gel manicure today, but I did and I love it.  The last time I painted my nails a color was.....never?

It's hard to believe that I'm not working on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  I'm still getting used to this welcome change.  Sometimes I find myself wandering towards the computer on my off days to place a book order or check in by email, but I catch myself; no, no....this won't do.  Gotta get with the new program.

It's hard to believe that it's just been two years since my mother died in September 2011.  For some reason it seems much longer.  I was looking through some photos of her the other day and found this one of her listening to her grandson, Nolan, playing the piano when we went out to Cincinnati for Daniel and Laura's wedding in September 2010.  I love the look on her face; she was always so happy to hear her loved ones sing or play music.  I sure miss our phone chats.

Speaking of Nolan, it's hard to believe that he and his sisters are growing up so much while we aren't looking.  I can't wait to see his family later this month, even if it does mean a long drive (thank you, Jean, for driving!)

It's hard to believe that we've had Ender's Game in my library for the past six years and I'm just now reading it.  It keeps showing up on all the "fast action" books for middle schoolers but it's been ignored by my students.  I probably never would have started reading it except that a movie of it is coming out on November 1.  Turns out it is a great read, one that I'll immediately start talking up (well, after I finish and return our one copy!)   They might be put off by this dated cover, which is in our library.

This cover is better, I think, don't you?  I think I'll order a couple paperback copies.  (But not tonight; tomorrow, when I'm officially at work. )

It's hard to believe that November 1 is just seven weeks away.  Until then you can watch the movie trailer here.
