They're Back!

CU students have slowly been trickling into town and making their preparations for the upcoming school year.  We are just a few blocks from the university and while we aren't exactly in a student neighborhood, we are close enough to appreciate the lack of traffic and noise and activity that the calmer summer months bring.  But I have to admit that I enjoy the stimulating quickening of pace when they begin to flood back into Boulder.   Students are certainly interesting to observe.

Ben and I got a laugh out of seeing this little crew ferrying a mattress the other day.  In my day we would have been in jeans and crew neck t-shirts.   I wonder if the young woman doing the heavy lifting woke up that morning and thought, "What shall I wear on moving day?" and picked out this unexpected outfit.  Or maybe she was on her way to another event and stopped to help out her friends?  Or, more likely, she just liked this outfit and threw it on.  Well, in any case, both women look great, and certainly strong enough for the job.

It's not just university students that are back.  As I'm typing this I'm also watching parents drop off their kids for the first day of school at the elementary school next door.   Don't think that means by car.  There are certainly cars, but families also arrive by bike, scooter, and on foot.   From my window I have a front row seat as moms and dads kiss their little ones goodbye and wish them a good day.   It's so sweet and reminds me of our own tender moments with Paul on his "first days of school."

But no more!  Instead, in a few minutes I'll be wishing him well as he heads off to a couple hours of work.  It's another form of education, and he's already perfecting the first lesson, which is to start work on time.
