It was cold last week, with low temps, high winds and frequent, though never heavy, snow. The kind of weather that made you want to hang out in front of the fireplace snug and warm in your fuzzy slippers.
But what you want and want you get are often two different stories, and so life did go on despite the weather or the way it made me feel.
The snow didn't keep us from doing Meals on Wheels on Monday or stop me from making the 30 minute drive to the Front Range Contemporary Quilts meeting that night; I'm on the board helping with exhibits so I made the effort to go even though snow was predicted to start up again at 10:00 pm. It was a good meeting and I was rewarded for my effort by meeting a new quilter who lives near me.
Tuesday I met Dawn for Pilates and then lunch and shopping. I think it snowed again later that day.
Wednesday Ben went up into the mountains to try some snowshoeing with some friends and reported that it was cold, wet, and windy. Glad I stayed home and worked on a charity quilt. I not only got the top put together but basted all the layers so it's ready to quilt. It was fun to be home working with such fresh and happy colors on a winter day.
I think it was that evening that I went downtown with a friend to do a little bar hopping.
We stopped in at the basement bar of the Boulderado Hotel, which is very historic and always worth a little tour. I spotted these two old phones, which I hadn't seen before. We don't even see taxis anymore in Boulder, much less use a rotary phone to call one from a hotel.
Thursday I went to Boulder's Quaking Aspen quilt guild and was out most of the day. I'm the librarian for the guild, which I enjoy, and the speaker showed some quilts with some simple but effective quilting, which was inspiring. I think it snowed again that day; it seemed to snow off and on all week. I know that I turned in two charity quilts, the African Animal quilt and the Disappearing 9-Patch Batik, which felt good. I aim to get my charity quilts done early in the year so they are off my "to do" list.
Friday I had lunch with the person I met on Monday night and then was back in Pilates that afternoon. It was snowing heavily when I drove home, but in the end we only got about two inches. We were spared the big storm that hit southern Denver Friday night and left my friend LeeAnna coping with 8.5 inches.
Saturday I was back at another quilt meeting, acting as a volunteer hostess for the Colorado Quilt Council, a state-wide guild that was meeting this month in Boulder, and then out to a late lunch with quilting chums. Saturday night we went to a Trivia evening which was a fundraiser for the Pantry of Hope, a local food bank, for which our friend Paula is the Board Chair, and the out to a late dinner.
The speaker at the Saturday guild meet was so good that I decided to go to her workshop on Sunday, so despite being out late Saturday night I got up early to get to the workshop by 9:00. It was well worth the trouble. See all those jars of paint on the table? The workshop was about painting on fabric, which is lots of fun. That's me in the red shirt. Sunday evening Ben and I went over to dinner at John & Dawn's.

Paul had a busy week as well, he says, and I know he worked hard to finish the desk he started a week or so ago. Once he got the legs on, he sanded the top and finished it nicely with a dark stain, and he and Ben managed to move the long table out of the garage and into Paul's room.
And here it is in action. I hope you notice the cool lights!
This week should be a slower paced one and we're expecting beautiful weather through Thursday. It's so much nicer to walk and hike in the sunshine!
did it get sunny? We have watery sun today which is a grand improvement! The fog froze to all the trees yesterday, so they glowed white against a solid gray sky. Snowed twice. Lots of snow this winter, more expected this weekend. Never know here tho... might not. You are so incredibly scheduled. So much to do. L.A.
