Ben and I had two treats last night; a wonderful dinner in a special restaurant AND a pretty little snowstorm.
The restaurant was Corrida, a Spanish steakhouse up on the rooftop of a downtown building offering lovely views of the Flatirons. It opened about a year ago and was named one of Denver's best restaurants for 2018. We hadn't been yet, and earlier this week we decided we were both in the mood for a splurge and made a reservation for Friday night. We had balmy sunny spring weather all week and anticipated enjoying dining on the patio, or at least having drinks there before going inside for dinner. Here's a photo from the Corrida's website, showing this sort of experience. Beautiful, yes?
Well, in true Colorado fashion, the perfect spring weather disappeared Friday and by evening it was chilly and snow was in the forecast. It was threatening enough that we didn't follow our usual pattern of walking downtown but took a LYFT instead. The patio was closed, but we enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant anyway.
Then it began to snow. And it was a wild windy snow, coming down in swirls and angles in a most dramatic way. We had front row seats and really enjoyed the show!
Despite the fact that it had been so warm during the week, the snow actually stuck to the ground. When we exited our LYFT home, we found a blanket of heavy wet, but pretty, snow covering our yard and bushes. It's always surprising how a snow can change the landscape so quickly.
By morning we had about three inches everywhere and the trees and shrubs looked quite sculptural from our windows.
Oh, and in case you're wondering, the restaurant lived up to it's reviews. After an excellent Margarita and a Gin & Tonic made with a much lighter tonic than I'd ever had (delicious!) we ordered a few Tapas, including wood-fire roasted carrots and Spanish seasoned crab cake, all very tasty. For entrees Ben had a wood-fire roasted Colorado rib eye steak and I had a wood-fire roasted Dover sole, both cooked perfectly and which came with very good house salads. No photos of the food as we spent our photo-taking time on trying to capture the dramatic snow outside.
the food sounds wonderful. The snow pics are cool too
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful restaurant. Hope you'll get to go back and enjoy the patio views in less snowy weather. Your snow pictures are beautiful. Hope you are enjoying your Thursday so far!
