Here's a before and after of the dining room wall:
The wallpaper was primed with a white oil based paint and then covered with two coats Sherwin Williams' Beach House. The painters told me they thought this technique worked because the wallpaper was put up in about 1984, when "good glue" was applied to the paper as it was hung, as opposed to today's pre-glued paper. I don't know; I just was happy that the "paint over" technique did the job!
Here's a before and after of the hallway showing the Steamed Milk color we used there:
What I don't have good photos of is the newly skimmed, sanded, and painted ceilings. That's what caused all the drywall dust, and actually what caused us to hire this whole job out, but it was worth it because the ceilings look great.
At some point we've got to start unpacking everything we put away for this big job and decide what, if anything, we're going to hang back up on the walls. But meanwhile, while we're cleaning up dust, we're admiring the fresh clean look of most of our downstairs rooms.
