In Between

I woke up to the sound of a gentle wind this morning, and felt a cool refreshing breeze blowing through the bedroom.  It lured me outside where I saw that we were having a lovely sunrise.   We just get a glimpse of the eastern sky from here, but it was reassuring to see.  Perhaps the breeze and the rain have worked together to drive out the smoke we've been having from all the wildfires the past couple of weeks.

On this beautiful morning I'm in between two fun events.  The past few days I've been at a quilt retreat and I'm leaving this morning for a sibling reunion for my brother's 70th birthday in northern Kentucky.

The retreat was a small one in a private home, with just the six quilters from one of my art quilt groups.  Of course we sewed, but we also visited, laughed, advised and taught each other, ate healthy and delicious simple meals, and just generally had fun being together.  I had a wonderful time and made a lot of progress on my various projects.

I put the binding on this cozy kid's quilt which is slated to go to Blue Sky Bridge..

... and finished all but the edges of this cityscape, which is the result of a challenge I'll tell you about  and show details of another day.

The idea was to use this photo from a jig saw puzzle as inspiration for an artwork.  You could do anything you wanted, but it had to somehow "come out of" what you saw or felt as you looked at this busy image.

For various reasons which I'll tell you in another post, I ended up doing a couple of variations.  I got this one sandwiched up and ready to quilt...

...and made this one and got it ready to quilt.  (All three are small pieces, none larger than 17x24".)

And, in the "let's finish old projects" category, I made a quilt back and selected and cut the binding for this paper pieced table runner I made about three years ago in a class.  (It needs a good pressing before I do anything else to it!)

After these satisfying days of sewing with friends, I'm now off for fun and visiting with my brothers and my sister and assorted (and much loved) nieces and nephews and their families.  It's a busy and fun week!
